Project updates 2019

Gap Kenya

We returned to see the exceptional work of Gayle and Paul and the team at Gap Kenya. The Joseph centre continues to support vulnerable women and children on the dump site providing education for the women and children. Gap hopes to find local safe accommodation for the ladies that attend so that they can sleep safely at night. While at the centre we were able to donate two sewing machines to help the women generate some income to support themselves and their children.
Gap Kenya’s stepping stones centre helps street boys and is now open three days a week and continues to educate, support and nurture the boys giving them a sense of belonging and guidance.

We’re delighted to see the 4wd we donated has arrived and is Helping the gap Kenya team support its projects. It gives Gap Kenya the flexibility to attend the dump site in all conditions with greater space for supplies and passengers.

Dharavi slum, India

In February we met up with our friend Depak an education coordinator in Dharavi slum, Mumbai, India. We have donated children’s books, physical education material and stationary in a recent shipment to assist the more impoverished children in getting a primary education. We also delivered a donation of soft toys.

The baby life rescue centre, Kenya

Our visit to the baby life rescue centre in Mombasa Kenya was both heartbreaking, and heartwarming, every child without a family is a tragedy, but this centre is very well run performing its duty of care with love and compassion while finding adoptive parents for as many orphaned children as possible. We will try to assist the centre over the coming year as best we can.

Nissan Pathfinder for GapKenya

Millennium charity support surprised Gayle and Paul woods of Gap Kenya with a 4 wheel drive Nissan Pathfinder.

After 6 weeks in Africa working alongside gap Kenya on their projects, Tanya and Colin Carter – Harrold new they had to help with the team’s transportation as the small SUV used to support children and women on the dump site struggled with the local terrain. In the rainy season it can’t reach crucial locations and ordinarily, with the state of the roads, it struggles to manage.

“I just wanted to add my personal thanks to Colin and Tanya of Millennium Charity Support for their amazing generosity by providing GapKenya with this vehicle so desperately needed, it will play its part in changing the lives of the kids living on the streets of Mombasa and the mums and kids living horrendous lives on the Mwakirunge Dumpsite, also in Mombasa.” – paul woods, GapKenya

They can support all projects with 2 vehicles and this 4 wd is ideal for carrying people and supplies even on the bad roads in all weathers. They work so hard and support so many that we are thankful to be able to help. We will now ship the Nissan which will arrive in June to Mombassa.

“It was great to surprise Gayle and Paul with the 4 wd they were shocked and moved as we know how much it will help them and their team on the ground” – Colin, Millenium charity support

Update 28/05/2018

The Millennium Charity Support celebrated its 12th anniversary of support to Africa in style with events and presentations in the coastal city of Mombasa Kenya.

The charity organisation head and founder member Mr Colin Carter-Harrold spent 3 weeks celebrating the achievements of City based charity Gap Kenya (Mungu Anaweza),participating in activities in their centres across Mombasa county.

The activities coordinated by Paul and Gayle Woods of Gap Kenya began with a presentation of certificates for the women who had completed their 9 week shine Hope course at stepping stones drop in centre in VOK. Colin and his wife Tanya said after the presentation that the course run by Gap helped enhance the women’s confidence and self esteem and would help them achieve their potential.

The contingent later toured the Gap Kenya family home where eight children from the streets have been brought in , nurtured ,loved and will be given a good education. The head of the charity support organisation which is based in the UK, told journalists the eight children stand a good chance of being future role models and pillars ofKenya society in years to come.

The visit also included time at the charity’s Joseph centre located on the Mwakirungue tip site which supports single mothers who live and work on the dump site to empower them with skills.

The women go to the centre to learn machine sewing, needlecraft and with the education given the women continue to develop life skills that will strengthen their chances of good future employment.

During their time at the dump the charities supplied a meal for all living on the dump so all could help celebrate. The climax of the celebrations was marked by a sports day for all the street kids who go to the stepping stones drop in centre. All the children staff and visitors got involved and a great day was had by all.

Millenniums Colin Carter-Harrold vowed to support the work of Gap Kenya in the City and help all their personnel achieve their goals in life.

Colin told Journalists that the support company plans to donate medical supplies and all being well a well needed 4 wheel drive when they return in May.

The contingent will now head up North to check on their container arrivals and other projects up in the Rifte Valley before flying out to Ethiopia and South Africa.
